SOLD Scarce example of vintage battery operated wood toy submarine Made in Japan after WW2. This submarine toy was highly regarded by the American soldiers stationed in Japan after the WW2 War. This subs are the coolest looking and the most sought after of the wooden handcrafted toys from that era. The toy was build about 70 years ago of wood, has a small electric TMY motor, 3 working electric lights (two original and one replacement), twin propellers, many detailed metal fittings and stanchions. The original burgundy and light blue paint has some scratching and flacking due to the age. Some of the metal parts and one of the guns was lost over time. The electric engine is still working well and and can be started by pushing down a switch situated in the rear of the submarine. Two separate small batteries and a switch were installed later by a fellow collector under the conning tower. The small switch lights up the front reflector and the port starboard lights. The submarine comes with a aftermarket wood display. Dimensions : 27 inches x 6 inches x 5 inches.
