Regular price $0.00 Sale

SOLD Featured below is a rare example of genuine sextant used by explorers for navigation on the sea. This is an excellent ebony 10 3/4 inch radius sextant made by W.F. Cannon, London in the first half of 1800. The device has most of the parts in place: a bone scale divided 0-110º, brass index arm with bone vernier, tangent-screw with clamp, two sighting telescopes, one with a pinhole sight and one with two lenses and a red filer, four sun shades, three horizon shades, one index and one horizon mirror, and a strong wooden handle and a nice mahogany fan shaped case. The case has some wear and tear due to the age and a crack on the bottom and a small chip at one of the corners. Just the small magnifier is missing for riding the vernier.

The device will make an excellent addition to your collection of early navigational instruments.
