SOLD Scarce example of single draw tapered barrel leather covered mahogany wood ships telescope signed “George Stebbing, Portsmouth, Optician to the RYC” form the first half of 1800's . Highly regarded scientific instruments maker form early 1800's George Stebbing under Duchess of Kent became Optician to the Royal Yacht Club (the name become latter The Royal Yacht Squadron RYC 1833 under King William IV) as well working for the Admiralty and Queen Victoria. This is a well preserved functional telescope in very good condition with smooth draw action and 36 mm object lens and about 12X power. The telescope main barrel is made of mahogany wood covered with well persevered leather, the rest of the fittings are made nickel silver or silver plated brass. Dimensions: 31 inches open, 24 inches closed. The telescope comes with a brass tripod made in late 1800’s
