SOLD Featured below is a rare early example of genuine pocket sextant or "box sextant" used by explorers for navigation. This piece  was made in the 1860-1870 by the well known scientific instruments maker Spencer Browning & Co London. The one a kind lacquered brass cylindrical body has several fine adjustments: index arm, magnifying  glass, two mirrors, adjustable green and red filters and a silvered vernier scale with very fine markings (0-140). The sextant has a nice retractable small sight telescope with a dark filter. Comes in original morocco leather, wood and blue velvet case. The brass case has some minimal wear and tear due to the age and the locking system of the wood box it was damaged over time.

Dimensions: 75 mm diameter and 40 mm height.
