Here is a fine example of a small postal letter scale, balance made of nicely engraved gilt brass. The balance is a small hand held instrument made by Parnell London and marked with Hall's Patent. Is most likely made in 1863. The device comes in a nice blue-green morocco leader, and red velvet and satin case. Condition of the device is excellent. Only the locking mechanism of the case is not working. In one of the pictures I weighted a small compass (1.75 OZ) and the scale is accurate. Dimensions of the case: 3 in X 5 1/2 inches.
