This is a late 19th century high altitude Balloonist or Alpinist pocket barometer, altimeter and compass compendium made in Switzerland by F. Kuhn Opt-er Luzern. The barometer scale goes from 19-31 inches and the altimeter scale ranges from zero to 14,000 feet adjusted by a bezel. The wonderful and rugged compass has a nicely ornated silvered dial and still shows the direction of magnetic North. The body of the device is made from darken adonized brass with minimal wear and tear. Dimensions: 55 mm diameter and 26 mm height. The device comes in original wood, leather and green satin case. The case has some wear and tear due to the age. What makes this altimeter rare is the high altitude range of the dial which is very hard to find for such a small device. The device is still showing differences in the barometric pressure and altitude variation.
