Featured below is a rare example of genuine sextant used by explorers for navigation on the sea. This is an excellent brass 9 inch radius sextant made by C Plath Hamburg Germany in 1907 and sold by J Bliss & Co New York . The device has most of the parts and accessories in place: a silvered scale divided 0-155, brass index arm with vernier scale (the vernier scale magnifier has a few cracks) and magnifying glass, tangent-screw with clamp, three sighting telescopes, one with a pinhole sight and one two with two lenses and a dark filer, four sun shades, three horizon shades, one index and one horizon mirror, and a strong wooden handle and a nice mahogany case.. The case has some wear and tear due to the age. The sextant comes with a original sales receipt signed by C Plath from 1907 and a nice small brass tube for seal oil for lubrication (empty). The device will make an excellent addition to your collection of early navigational instruments.
