SOLD Featured below is a rare example of genuine pocket sextant or "box sextant" used by explorers for navigation. This piece was made in the early 1900s by the well-known scientific instrument maker Stanley from London. The sextant comes with a retractable telescopic sight that has a dark sun filter (anodized brass cylindrical body), including several fine adjustments: magnifying glass, two mirrors, adjustable green and red filters and a silvered vernier scale with very fine markings. The original leather case is in excellent condition for the age. The screw-in bezel who attaches the micro telescope to the sextant was lost. However the sextant is functional the reading can be taken through the adjustable peephole. Dimensions: 70mm diameter and 40mm height.
The second device showcased is a drum clinometer made by the same maker - Stanley. The case is made of brass and glass and specific engravings are present on the laquired section "Stanley Great Turnstile Holborn, London". This item is in good working condition. Comes with the original leather case. Dimensions: 70mm diameter and 16mm height.
These two items as sold together as a combo. They will make an excellent addition to your collection of early navigational instruments.
