Featured below is a rare example of genuine small octant used by explorers for navigation on the sea. This is an excellent brass 8 1/2 inch radius brass made by Kevin Bottomley Baird Glasgow late 1800’s  early 1900’s. The device has most of the parts in place: a silvered scale divided 0-125, brass index arm with silver  vernier, tangent-screw with clamp, two sighting telescopes, one with a pinhole sight and one with two lenses, two sun shades, one horizon shades, one index and one horizon mirror, and a strong wooden handle and a nice mahogany  case. The small vernier magnifier has a crack in the lens.
The device will make an excellent addition to your collection of early navigational instruments.
