SOLD Example of exquisite barometer compass and thermometer compendium made of sterling silver. This is one of the smallest examples of barometer sets ever made just 28 mm in diameter and 10 mm height. The compendium most likely British made in late 1800 and sold by Marcks & Co Ltd Bombay Poona, a high end watch retailer from India. The three separate instruments are fully functional: the barometer scale goes from 25-31 inches of mercury and the altimeter scale ranges from zero to 6,000 feet. The bimetallic type thermometer shows the temperature in Fahrenheit and Celsius degrees and goes from 30 F to 120 F and 0 C to 50 C. The wonderful compass has a mother of pearl face and is a Singer's patent type. The burgundy leather covered case is in excellent condition with the functional locking system.
The condition of this item is excellent. The leather exterior is scuffed in few places near the hinges and the interior is made of blue velvet.
Dimensions of the leather case: just 90 mm height and 20 mm depth. I attached a few pictures with a average size (50 mm) pocket barometer for comparison. The Short & Mason Barometer is not for sale.
This one of kind device will make a exquisite addition to your collection.
