SOLD. This is an excellent example of a brass pressfit domed compass made in Germany early 1800s designed for travelers and settlers and introduced in US by outfitters and early explorers. This specific item has the makers name Negelein above the North sign and the magnetic declination arrow pointed to 18 degrees West. Each device is unique in its own way due to the attractive printed paper dial and custom hand painted compass rose. Diameter: 54mm and height 14mm.
