SOLD Here is a fine example of a small nautical telescope with red wooden vernier cover from the middle of the 19th century. The telescope has 7 draws and a well engraved signature "Allegre Opticien la Marine a Toulon". Due to its compact size the device was used most likely by a local boat captain or a fearful French corsair. The telescope is in very good condition and has a sharp image, a well preserved patina with a few small imperfections: a small chip to the object lenses and some wear and tear due to age.The bras dust cap was lost over time.
Dimensions: 25 inches open, 5 inches closed and 40mm diameter object lens.
