Rare pocket compass made of turned fruit wood. This type of compass was customary made in central Europe, this one in particular in Bavaria region - estimated between 1700s through mid 1800s. This was meant to be used by travelers and early settlers and introduced in United States by outfitters and early explorers. The compass has maker's name Stockert present above the North sign - a compass maker family with a extraordinary history in producing compasses for 250 years. Each device is unique in his own way due to the printed paper dial and custom hand painted compass rose. The condition of the compass is very good , a bit of wear and tear dure to the age and a piece of lower corner of wood case is missing . The compass measures: 58 mm x 60 mm 18 mm
