SOLD  Featured below is a rare early example of genuine pocket sextant or "box sextant" used by explorers for navigation. This piece was made in the late 1800's by the well-known scientific instrument maker Elliott & Brothers  from London. The sextant comes with a peep whole sight with a dark sliding sun filter. The anodized brass cylindrical body has several fine adjustments: index arm, magnifying  glass, two mirrors, adjustable green and red filters and a silvered vernier scale with very fine markings (0-140). The original leather case is in excellent condition for the age.  The sextant is functional the reading can be taken through the adjustable peephole. The inside case still has the original Natural Tangents printed paper.  Dimensions: 68 mm diameter and 38 mm height.
