Scarce example pocket or miniature altimeter Barograph made by Jules Richard Paris in 1920's for use in ballooning and early aircrafts. This marvel of engineering incorporates in a tiny leather and glass case (120 mm x 90 mm x 30 mm) an aneroid movement with two capsules, a six hour clock mechanism, recording arm and a rolling recording paper chart for altitudes up to 20000 feet. The mechanism is encased in a nice nickel covered case, the small rolling chart is making a full rotation every six hours, and recording arm control has rising and falling gate causing inked mark on the chart every 30 seconds. The top of the nickel case has the Jules Ricard logo in the lower center, top left corner of the case has the aneroid movement calibration knob, and the ink arm slot has 3 positions (A , 1, B ), the upper right corner of the case is the clock regulation slot. The original mahogany accessory case has two compartments one for the device and a compartment for the extra charts , ink bottle and original key. The barograph is in excellent condition with minimal wear and tear due to the age. Mahogany case dimension: 7 inches x 5 1/2 inches ” x 2 1/4. Scarce example of early exploration history!
